About The Paintings
Each of my paintings is a facial expression. The face is the simplest means of expressing a complex emotion. I keep a daily emotional diary of faces in my sketchbook. Each page in my sketchbook is a series of faces that serve as a record of instantaneous emotional states. I look through this sketch diary for faces that stand out as significant feelings. Each of my painted works is based on one of these sketches.

Biography
I was born in 1978 in Nashua, New Hampshire. Since then I have lived in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Massachusetts, New Hampshire (again) and now Miami Beach, FL. I started painting in 8th grade in Marshall, MN. A local painter Duane Penske showed me how to stretch a canvas. During high school and college most of my art was video. I recently started painting again in November of 2005 after an almost 10 year hiatus.

I have no formal art training other than a drawing class my second year of college. I have a Bachelor's degree from Hampshire College and a Master's degree from the University of Florida.

This is another page from my sketch book. In particular it is the page from 11:00 AM on May 21st, 2006. This one has some good faces on it. The first face on the second row is Number 73. The seventh face in the third row is number 74. The fourth face on the fifth row is Number 77. Notice the little arrows pointing out a few of the faces. I leave little notes like this to myself when I am drawing so I am sure to pay attention to those faces when I go back through. Most of the time when I am drawing I know which faces are the good ones, sometimes I don't though. I will probably paint a few more off this sheet. Like I said, this was a good page. The page I did at 11:10 AM is pretty good too. A whole page like this takes about 10 minutes with pen and about 2 minutes with pencil. The reason is that I tend to draw smaller with pen. More faces equals more time. I will post some other pages here later if people are into it. So people, if you want more - let me know.
