Title: Number 344
Size: 16x20 (inches)
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

I painted this February 18th, 2009. This is a continuing exploration of Naphthol reds that I have done recently. 336 and 337 being the other two completed this year. I have loved the Naphthol pigment since I first began using it with Number 235. While viewing the Miro retrospective at MOMA in December I became fascinated by the red color he used in the painting "the magic of color" - while I am not sure if this is the pigment he used, paint sold as Naphthol Red Light is the closest approximation I have found so far. Like Miro's painting, this one too required many many coats of paint to achieve this level of color saturation.
